what would be the best practice for a two year raftsman? ive been down this strech twice, never at the helm, but id love to be ready for it. i have an 18 aire with numerous trips through haystack under my belt. (yeah that was scarcasam) where can a guy take such a large raft, get some experience, and not be in immediate peril? thanks
Fast is fine, but accuracy is final. You need to learn to be slow in a hurry! Wyatt Earp.

Raoul, I would check out sections of the Matanuska (below Lions Head), sections of the Nenana (above the Gorge), and Eagle River from the campground down to Ft. Rich when the river is high enough (4-5ft), campground rapid (above the campground) might be doable in your boat at the right flow. Also, take classes, read books, watch videos, dress to swim, and most importantly...make friends.
