Default Unimak Island Photos - May 2010

Helped out on a guided spring Unimak Island Hunt (Unit 10) for brown bear / wolves. What a trip it was for our hunter! Truly out of this world...

3 wolves, and one great big brown bear!

Oh, the memories, I was there in 1977 for two weeks replacing the Corpsman at the Loran Station.

    Default mystique

And the mystique of Alaska delivers. Thats a fine bunch of animals.

I'm really impressed with the hide on that bear. I'd love to run my fingers through that.

I've put in for a Unimak Island bear permit for a number of years, that's definately validation to keep trying. Beautiful bear.

Great bonus to take a few wolves as well. It's only to bad you couldn't have taken a few more. The caribou are thanking you.

Default Beat ADF&G to the punch

I just ran across the above article about the wolf population on Uminak. Looks like F&G are getting help from you and don't even know it.

Congrats on a fine mixed bag of predators. Sounds like a lucky hunter had a hunt of a lifetime. Congrats

AAA, In the pic with you holding up the wolf I noticed your boots. Are they from Cabela's?

Glad to see Booch's hunters are helping to take care of the wolf situation on Unimak. Three wolves... according to the state, that would be 10% of the islands wolf population. Hum

Default I've spent a lot of time on that beach.

The second picture of the wolf. I know that beach...spent many weeks there. Lots of bears and wolves. Almost like a park. I was laying on my back in the grass and a fox trotted right up and stood right over me...looking down into my face.

Caribou, Ptarmigan, and lots of other stuff too. Very wild.
