    Talking Blackie Sow & Cubs

This particular site is getting pounded by 3 separate Grizz (one of them a monster), a Sow and two cubs and another lone blackie. Enjoy.

    Default Interior Black Bear

Shot this bear on the 21st. Ran about 150 yards into some thick brush. I was glad to have a buddy there helping me get it out. Overall good hunt and better yet to have shared it with my buddy who is new to bear hunting.

Enjoy! Oh yeah, it squared 6' 2''

    Default A few cam pictures

Here is a few from my station. We got hammered with wind and rain just before Mothers Day and were not getting to much action, but just after M.D. it turned on Big Time. I got over 100 pictures in 5 days. It looks like 4 different bears are hitting the station and two of them look really good.

    Default Zach's Cinnamon

On 23 May, 2010,at 3:15pm, Zach Hanks (age 9) took his second Alaskan black bear. This time it was the cinnamon he had dreamed of ever since he got his first blackie 2 seasons ago (at the ripe old age of 7). After sitting on the stand for 9 hours, she finally came in. We watched her for a while and got some great video of her tearing into the barrel. This gave us the opportunity to completely check out her hide and make sure it was as good as it had seemed in the trail cam pics from earlier in the week. Turns out she was even better in real life. She has dark brown circles around her eyes and dark brown ears. Her coat is blonde and fades to dark brown at her feet which really shows off her ivory colored claws. Zach was hesitant at first because she wasn't a large bear, but after watching her for over 30 minutes, her uniquely colored coat was too much to pass up. Shooting the same Tikka 30-06 he used on his first black bear 2 season's ago, he put a perfectly placed 180 gr Nosler Partition low behind the left shoulder, through both lungs and out of the right shoulder. The bear went 7 yards and never moved again.

Folks I have to tell you the greatest thing about hunting with my son is that he really gets it. He's not there just to shoot anything that moves and he doesn't mind putting in the work and long hours in the stand. Last year he spent days in the woods and saw several bears, but none worth shooting. It didn't bother him a bit and he was right back out there with me this year as soon as school let out. The first thing he said after we went and found his bear was "I'll bet she's going to make some great sausage and snack sticks". Like I said, he truly gets it. I hope you all enjoy this little story and the pictures as much as I enjoyed the experience with my son.

Activity is pretty slow it seems this year, no big boars yet. Hopefully get a shooter on my bait soon. If not i'll settle for a 5ft+. Any guess on size? Pics are pretty shotty though..
