Thread: Karluk River?

    Default Karluk River?

Has anyone done this trip in the fall for steelhead that would be willing to share some logistics with me? Either floating or cabin rental. We would prefer a do it yourself type option.

    Thanks,

    Matt

Done it twice, stayed at the Cabin (Former Military Lodge) for one week each time, back in the early 80's. It is awesome, truly awesome, Steel head & Silvers beyond your wildest imagination, Bears & Red Foxes. A wonderful experience.....

    Default Karluk River Lodging

I'm not personally familiar with the do-it-yourself option, but there are several lodges in Larsen Bay that will shuttle you to and from the Karluk, which is like a 5 minute float plane ride away. The one that everyone says is best is Kodiak Legends Lodge. There are a couple others also, but Kodiak Legends seems to have the most dialed-in freshwater operation.

The steelhead fishing on the Karluk is the best I've ever encountered. Enjoy!

I think there is a lot of Native land down there, so make sure you have a land status map. Call some of the air services on the island
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.
