    Default Drift socks

Never used one before but the bulk of our fishing is drifting so I ordered one from Cabelas. Any secrets to using them? How much line do you leave out? Where do you tie them off the boat?
    Thanks

My biggest use for them is against wind. Bow is usually best, just to keep the line out of the fishing action. Fishing from a Zodiak or pontoon boat (even on lakes) in the wind, or especially drifting downriver in a raft when the wind is blowing upriver, they're about priceless. Just about useless when wind and current are going the same way. They can turn into a real snarl when the wind is variable or 90 degrees to the current. Bigger boats and little wind, not much use either.
