    Default The ICE FREE thread

So here on the Kenai Peninsula its pretty much lake fishing until June 11. I want to go, but what lakes are open? Curious about Vagt and Carter. Lower Trail Lake is open at the Trail River outlet and along the southern shore. Saw Johnson Lake a week ago and it looks like it could be open by now. How is the outlet of Hidden Lake looking? Dont need to restrict this to KP only, what lakes are opening up in other areas?

Every lake in the Anchorage area is clear; fishing has been really really slow though. ADFG stocked 4.5 inch trout this year instead of their usual 7-8 inchers, really disappointing.

I drove from Homer to Anchorage today (Sunday). Everything I saw was still iced over except Skilak and the shallow wetlands. Last Thursday I flew from Kodiak to Anchorage and had fairly decent viewing conditions, other than Skilak and Tustemena, everything from the air looked iced over still.

    Thumbs up Ice Free

Sports lake in Soldotna and Johnson in Kasilof are both 100% ice free.
Tried to get to Spirit but the gate is still closed for spring breakup.

The north end is open. I suspect the south end is as well but haven't been by it to see.
