    Default Tunnel closed may 20th

Just a quick heads-up, I went to Whittier today and they said the tunnel will be closed for paving May 20th all day

Default closed 0745 to 12 noon according to web site

    http://www.dot.state.ak.us/creg/whit...el/index.shtml

CLOSURE NOTICE: On Thurday May 20, 2010 the tunnel will be closed
from 7:45 AM until 12 NOON for paving.
Unfortunately, due to the location of the paving, there is no way to install a detour.
A short closure is our only option. We apologize for the inconvenience.

better news for me i was planning on being there about noon

Good God. Why would they have a closure so close to such a huge holiday weekend? You know that some people are going to take off work early only to find themselves waiting for the tunnel to open.

    Default Oversize Restrictions

Was there ever any consensus on whether there were any time/day restrictions for oversize vehicles through the tunnel? I've tried to call the tunnel folks a couple of times, with no answer. Would rather talk to them, then leave a message. From what I have read on previous threads, it sounds like one guy says one thing, and another, another. Thanks.

    Smile Holiday weekend?

I thought that the holiday Memorial Day was on the 31st. Doesn't seem too close to the 20th. Just gotta plan around it.

Thanks for the info, we have been planning on heading out on the 20th. I guess we'll just plan on leaving in the afternoon and calling before we head down.
