If you can't kill one with a 404, the fault lies soley with the nut behind the but.

Never shot a bear with it, but I had the pleasure of putting a couple of thousand rounds through one back in the 80's. It was an original G&H with claw scope mount, express sights, the works. It belonged to a friend back east who was intimidated by the recoil when he brought it out here, left it with me and wanted me to work up loads for it. Then it took him two years to come back and collect it. What's a guy to doooooooo????? ;-)

Actually had his blessings to shoot it as much as I wanted, so I did.

I'd have no hesitation about using it for bear. In fact, I might even prefer it to many alternatives, or at least that particular rifle. Whacked one moose, one elk and a handful of deer with it. And a whole lot of gallon jugs of water.

    Dang, I miss that rifle!

Never had the pleasure of shooting one but the caliber, bullet weight and velocity all say it would work very well.

Excellent cartridge! Definately a connoisseurs choice. I have no experience with that cartridge on bear but, with the right bullets, it should be great. What kind of rifle are you looking at?
