    Default Hooligan

Anyone ever tried to catch hooligan on a really light fly rod? Might be a fun way to get the bugs out of the cast and catch a few (all-be-it tiny) fish.

I bet herring jigs will do the trick
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

Default Done it with smelt...pretty close to Hoolies

Have caught smelt in and near Dillingham using small smolty flies (number 6-10). IT was tough to get em on the strip because although they have pretty pointy teeth...they bit soft and quick. Did best using an indicator and even then I had to be quick.

We see smelt in lots of rivers out west in the spring time during the spawn run...they aren't all biting and often when using larger stuff (spinners/rapalas to name a few) I ended up with a lot of foul hooks as they nipped at stuff...but they were still fun.
