    Default Another "Groundhog" down

Got this one saturday. Saw a lot of dens and tracks mostly headed into some nasty stuff we couldn't get into but caught this guy by his den and got in front of him before he could get into the high country. Crappy snow conditions but the machines handled it well and we couldn't have asked for better weather. Going to square somewhere between 6.5-7 blonde boar with chocolate legs

Congrats Pupcow. I really like the coloring on that bear. Looks more like a giant wolverine than a groundhog with the way its colored.

Great looking bear, I love the color on it. It's killing me seeing these grizzly hunt threads and I can't get another tag until July. I feel like I should be getting ready to head out.

This was a unit 13 bear...pretty happy about how it worked out. Usually we are too early or too late so for it to finally click was a big pat on the back..we had originally planned this in 07 while sitting in Iraq, experienced some learning curves along the way the in the past years and now we have a well defined gameplan that hopefully will see this success repeated in the future. It also helps having GPS coordinates off of the other dens for the future hunts

Congrats on a fine bear. Looks like the bear I harvested May 09 with Bob Adams. Same color and size.
What caliber did you use and distance for the shot?

Well it's killing me but I shot it with a 300 win mag at 60 yards..usually a bowhunter but still trying to figure out how to get a bow on the machine and make it work for snow bears. However even with a bow I would have to pop him with a gun all he was going to give me was a hard quartering to or straight on shot until he was either on top of me or noticed that the brown blob in front of him was starting to move.. so I took the hard quartering to shot.
