Heading to sheep mtn in the morning and was curious if anybody has ever had any luck fishing long lake through the ice ?

    Default No

Haven't tried it but some people do fish it. Someone had a path plowed out for a distance back around the 29th of Dec. They usually setup about 2/3 of the way down the lake.

I've seen quite a few people fishing in Long lake but I haven't done it. We usually go down the road a little further to Weiner lake. The action isn't fast and furious, but the fish (rainbows) are pretty good sized. Try the northern end of the lake in about 12-15'.

Just FYI the Long Lake in kepler bradly is closed to ice fishing.
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

I used to ice fish long lake 3-4 times each winter, I never did have a day where the action was fast and furious, but did have a day when I caught 3 burbot the largest was 41" long.

It's hit hard. If you want the big ones, you have to spend lots of time.

    Default Long Lake Lake Trout?

I see they have planted a few lake trout in this lake in the past. Are there any decent sized fish here?

    Default No report to give

Well I didn't stop on Saturday morning as there was no one out there & obviously the only way out was by foot or snowmachine. Sunday eve coming back through I saw there was 2 or 3 separate groups out fishing & thought about walking out to see how they were doing. However after spending the earlier portion of the day trudging through the deep snow I couldn't find the energy to get out of warm truck for an ice-fishing report which I could probably guess anyway.
The kids on the snowmachines pulling the sleds & snowboards looked to be having fun though.

All the lake trout I caught were small (12" to 16" class), but I never spent lots of time at it. There are likely some that are a bit larger, but since that lake is hit pretty hard, they're probably real smart.
