Default Hunting Control Lake Cabin at P.O.W.

Has anybody ever hunted deer at control lake cabin at p.o.w.? I would be hunting late aug. or early sept.Would this be a good time to hunt?
Or would it be better to hunt at karta river or kegan cove? We would also be trying to hunt deer at these spots.I would also like to have some decent fishing at one of these spots. How are the bugs at this time of the year? Any advice would be great. Thanks

Aug/Sept is alpine time on POW. Late Oct/Nov is Rut time, and the bucks are down lower. Control Lake is in the area of some great mountains to hunt, but the cabin is a pain the the *** to access, IMO. It would not be the most ideal situation for you. If it were me, I'd simply grab a B&B a few nights in Craig and plan on spending the rest of the nights up on the mountains, where the majority of the deer are that time of the year.

If you will be in town this weekend, you might want to stop by the Outdoor Show. There will be a few places from Prince of Wales there that can give you a little idea on what the hunting will be like and places to go. I know for sure that Coffman Cove Adventures will be there.

Default deer hunting from b&b on p.o.w.

If we were to stay at a b&b then hunt the mountains, would this be a backpack in and stay in a tent?

Yes. It's a good thing to camp out near the alpine so you can be glassing for bucks at first light.

    Default b&b and hunting area

Could you sugest a good b&b and an area to hunt. How far would we have to pack in?

Lots of good B&B's on the island. Google it and plenty will come up.

As far as an area.. I'd suggest getting a map and downloading google earth. All the mountains have bucks on them, and many of the mountains have logging roads near them. Do your homework and have fun.

    Default no trails

Be sure and take some flagging or use a good gps and make a digital flag line. ... do not take any short cuts and come down the SAME way you went up.

There are search and rescue operations on POW almost every season and some are for local residents.

And just remeber in this SE AK jungle 10 feet can be a long ways !!!!
