Doing the local thing for black bear by foot, boat, and ATV. I love spring bear hunting and I have 2 tags burning a hole in my pocket.

So . . . you have to have tags in posession for blackies this year?

I don't remember it being that way in the past.

I need to get my hunt/fish license this weekend.

    Then my brown bear tags.

    Default Kuiu

Yes you'll need harvest tags now for Black Bear.

I'll be running my skiff to Kuiu the middle of May. I sure wish I had a video camera for this hunt. It's sure to be exciting with plenty of scenery. A point and shoot will have to do.

Can't wait to get out hunting Blackies and Running Shrimp Pots. We plan to start April 15th weather and rock slides permitting. Hoping to get some more great Black Bear Footage and a couple of nice blackies to boot.

Will be heading north in April for interior grizz, possibly up Eagle River valley for a packraft black bear hunt in mid-May, and then either into the Sound or possibly K Bay for black bear with my nephew in mid to late May. Throw in some beaver trapping with hopes for a bear sighting with my nephew in early May for good measure. Should be a good spring.

Try some April grizz hunting both off of sno-gos as well as backcountry skiing. May is going to be PWS as well as black bear hunting in unit 16 via packraft. Beyond that if I don't score in May I may due my part in mid summer for predator control by taking a grizz up by my cabin depending on where I am on my packrafting trips I have planned this summer. If I see one towards the tail end of the trip I might have to take it.

Default I've had spring bear fever since the end of February!

Spring bear hunting is my favorite hunt of every year...it's the best. I'll be going back to the same place I have for many years, and where I have shared excellent hunting experiences with my friends and family. My son got his first black bear there last year, and I was with him to see it.

WOW! Lots of action going on. We're flying in and following day after we get settled will hit it by snowmachine and hiking where necessary. Really looking forward to this. Would like to hit PWS this year also as its one of my fav area's to play in. Maybe a fall combo black bear/duck hunt in Cordova...now that I got my toes wet last season and know what's going on kind of

I think they are just "harvest tickets" required, not tags.

Maby check out the gathering WACH and see who following it.......hopefully with a fellow forum friend.
Predicted back down in temps, all minus this and that, but it makes for great riding, and heavy sled pulling, with a nice crust.

Plenty of grizzly bears in the area. Make sure you know where public land is, as Ahtna owns a fair amount of land in that area of the state.
