I read that today and it made me sick. So how is it that Pebble is going to put the habitat first? They all have one interest and thats all they care about and fish come in a distant second!!

Well we need to get it out from under the rug and try to do something about it. Me thinks with the Pebble mine uproar, the mining company running the Chuitna project might be trying to sqeak this one by while everyone concentrates on Pebble Mine. I signed the petition and I urge everyone else to. It'd be very sad to see 11 miles of salmon habitat destroyed.

I do not live in AK so who am i to tell you what to do but what you have up there is so precious it just has to be protected! Dont let big money interests rape Alaska. 11 miles of salmon stream is unnaceptable to loose. Its not like an oil well on land that uses just a tiny fraction of land. loosing salmon streams is just not right. What you have up there can be lost like it was in CA OR and WA. Dont let that happen up there!

Signed with a letter sent to your Governor. I also forwarded it to all my buddies in AK as well as called them. they will sign it and contact their state legilators as well. This has to be stopped.

Exclamation Attention ppls!!!!!! petitions won't be enough

The only thing that stops projects like this is cold hard cash...
You want some answers? Find out how much PacRim (sounds like a gay porno lol) contributes to legislators, the governor and candidates running for these offices. Then its simple we need to contribute more, thats all.
Instead of organizations like sport fish, dippers, commercial, guide, trout unlimited, canneries and whatever other organizations we have under the sun that are separate, we need to circle up the wagons and form a collective powerful lobby that has a louder voice (bigger wallet) than the mining industry. The big question--can we all get along for this undertaking?
Somebody needs to start a thread about this very notion!!!!!!! make a poll asking if we (different user groups of the same resource) can get together and agree. Its quite simple folks-----MONEY TALKS specially w/ Alaskas politicians....hehehe

I just signed it also. Thanks for pointing this out. How could there not be a law against this already when you can get in big trouble for just driving a hunting rig thru salmon beds. Why do we even need to make laws for something that anyone with any form of working brain would know that isn't a good plan. Crazy world getting Crazier.

This issue has been discussed over the last few years, but like said before, they have managed to keep VERY quiet about it and have seemingly swept it under the rug. This is unacceptable to say the least and should NOT be allowed to continue!!

I'd personally rather have a Susitna hydro project....

Where is mining acceptable? Doesn't Alaska have 3,000 streams and rivers? If we can't drill/explore for gas in Cook Inlet or offshore, and can't extract resources near salmon streams, where can mining take place? Donlin Creek? http://www.donlincreek.com/ Everyone seems to be for responsible development; these days I don't really know what that means anymore.

Tim - We're not talking about "near" a salmon stream. This is going to completely remove 12 miles of riverbed in a major salmon producing river. Big difference.

I am more than willing to start a poll on this, only thing is I can't figure out how . I'd also be willing to work with anyone and everyone to see how we can band together and figure out how to raise the money and/or support. Anyone else willing to take the time to do this?
