    Default early bear tracks...

had a couple guys that i dropped off across the bay for a day of snowshoeing report tracks of a sow and cub!
pretty early, and unusual for them to be up before the boars. i wonder if their den flooded in the warm weather?

I think your like me, Dave. Is this a round about way of saying:
BEARS are OUT and my boat is available?

I just heard of a bear sighting near Willow. I'm a bit skeptical of that, but if it's true...might be a very, very early year for nice hides

Default Bear tracks - Denali Highway

I spotted 3 sets of tracks this weekend. Two up high in the Clearwaters, and one down in the valley. We been seeing some warm temps for quite some time on the south facing slopes, and there is little to no snow left up high. With the low snow year, I think they just don't have the cover they are used to. This is the earliest I've seen them out up there. Once in awhile the last few days of March, but never this early.

    Default fluke awakening, i'm sure

i really don't expect bears to be out in any numbers here until early may soonest.
still 2-3 feet of snow across the bay, lots more up high.

A wet den would be my first thought too unless it's high elevation/northern slope.
