    Default Wasilla Apr. 21st

Hey all I have a conference in Wasilla April 21-22 (Tues/Wed). I was debating heading down the weekend before to hang out and do some fishing but have no idea if that time is good for camping and/or fishing in the Mat-Su region. I know up here in Fairbanks it will still be a bit winterish.

If it is going to be a fair/decent time to head down does anyone have some suggestions on where to go? I am more interested in just getting into some relatively consistent fishing then I am chasing down monsters or unique settings.

(P.S. can bring a canoe if it will help)

The camp ground at the mouth of willow creek is nice. pretty decent rainbow fishin in the lower holes.
there will be ice on the lakes but the northern edges (south facing) should be ice free. I like to cast my business on the ice and drag it till it drops in the water.. its usually lights-on

spring in fairbanks nearly always precedes that in the mat-su by a week or two. not necessarily in all localities/years but no question as a general trend.

went to school in fbks and did several drives leaving spring in the interior, back to winter through the AK range, and then into what definitely was a less developed spring in the mat-su.

some years the end of april can be pretty dang cold. some years it can be quite balmy.
