    Default Everclear, the real stuff.

Hmmm toss up on whether to post here or Alaskan pantry, or maybe safety survival etc.
Anyway, the recent post on penny stoves got me messing around with them and my Pepsi can stoves again. I usually use heat, etc for fuel, but would love to try Everclear (always nice to have more than one use for what you carry) All I have been able to locate in Losanchorage is the 150 proof variety. Is 190 proof Everclear (or other straight pure grain alcohol) available anywhere in the state?

    Thanks,
    Dave

You are seriously considering running a penny stove with $40 liquor as opposed to using 99-cent denatured alcohol from the hardware store?

(no, haven't seen any 190 Everclear available)

Yep Joat, under several circumstances I sure would have paid that much for "excess" fuel that had another use. Also when I was buying the stuff (mid 70s) it was dirt cheap. If we can't get it how do we know it is $40 a bottle?

I don't believe you can buy the 190 proof anymore.

Used to be good in hot tomato juice tho, those were the day's.

( also good to make homade snapps, lol )

Yeah, but it wouldn't be hard to get a couple jugs of the 150 and re-distill it out with a table top still then cut it with water to make it 190. Any decently outfitted science classroom would have the materials.
    Now what ?

Never seen it in AK but I know you can get it in Montana. I brought up two bottles when I moved north in 2005.

Boiling a flammable mixture over fire just isn't the right stuff.

I take it you've never had twice run moonshine.....

Table top stills are also used to cook off grapple.

I flunked that class, I would probably make a big boom if I tried that formual, .

We used to take it out on the rafting trips because we could make snapp's ( about 4 bottles out of one bottle)

They had it up here, the 190 proof, til about 10 year's ago.
