Default Great Deal on ACR 406 PLB

For anyone who's been thinking about buying a PLB, this is a great deal at $239. Amazon is currently selling the same unit for $499.

BTW, I've got no affiliation with Defender.

Because they say it's HazMat. I don't really understand WHAT makes it HazMat?!

Do you need to pay a service with these, like the SPOTs?

There's no service fee for EPIRBs and PLBs. EPIRBs and PLBs can only be used in emergencies, though. But in an emergency, I'd much rather have an EPIRB or PLB than a SPOT.

    I'm guessing it's the battery.

I remember reading one ad for a one of these where they said their battery was rated so that it could be shipped by air, so I don't think this is the case with all of the brands. I imagine this may be problem if you try taking it on a plane as well.
