I've driven past the sighn to Hyder when I was on my way to Pr. Rupert a couple of times. I havent found much info. about Hyder. Whats there as far as hunting for a non resident? I've been to POW hunting black bear and fishing this year and two years ago, I had a great time but I would like to cut the ferry ride out for my next DIY hunt on the cheap. Is there any sort of a road system in the national forest around Hyder?
the road system around Hyder is just like the Natl forest Roads down in Oregon and Washington with easy access......NOT!!!
No, really Hyder is just a very small spot with a bar that has hotel rooms above it. The canadian town about a mile from Hyder is fairly large a couple thousand people. You have to go through customs to go to the bar...I don't remember how fare the road in Hyder goes...I think it is only a few miles of 4x4 only (could be wrong). It has been two or three years since I was there.
I am not sure if there is any real hunting down there....not much U.S. land that is easy to get too...Did not see any guiding facilities.
There is about 12 miles of US road out of Hyder before you cross back into Canada. There is a Bear hunting closure around town and past the Bear viewing platform. It is closed (including drainages) to the Riverside Mine at about 9 mile.
A good Boat will get you down the Canal .... but the Canal is famous for it's weather.
I Guide out of Hyder for Black and Brown Bear and sometimes Mt Goat.
