    Default Alaska Blackfish

Just thought I would mention that I caught an alaska blackfish today in Campbell point lake today. I thought it was a burbot until closer inspection. Anyone else caught these fish in this lake?

    Default blackfish...

Never caught them there but I've caught them in DeLong Lake and seen them washed up dead in Lake Spenard years ago.

    Default Transplants

Like pike, blackfish are not native to the southcentral region. They were transplanted from southwestern Alaska by native people hungry for their flesh. They can be found in a variety of places and are very adaptable, but prefer open water in the winter, such as springs and hot spots where they can "breathe". I'm surprised you caught one on a lure as they are usually caught in traps.

I actually caught it on the bottom with a shrimp. Trying to get one of those char to pick it up. Instead I got him.
