    Default 2000 Merc 4-stroke

I'm looking at a 2000 mercury 4-stroke 40hp. Its missing the cowling cover and the tiller handle is broken, other than that she's cherry. I have no idea what the outboard is worth, or if its even worth sinking the time and parts into. any suggestions?

Not the spunkiest model they made...had one. Had very good fuel economy on a my 16' v-hull skiff...roughly 7 miles to the gallon at 3/4 throttle on the ocean with 2 people and gear. Ran great, started great but had some vacuum lines pop off and make it run at high idle. Zip-tie the connections and all should be well. As for price, I don`t think I`d put more than $2K in a tiller or $2,500 in one with controls.

a ten year old motor might be worth 25% the cost of a new one minus what has to be done to fix it to perfect running and looking condition.
