Thread: 2010 Alaskan Hunting Photo Gallery

Default 2010 Alaskan Hunting Photo Gallery

    Same guidelines as usual:

Photos and short hunt descriptions only. - Please, if you want to congratulate a hunter or ask questions, do so in a separate thread or via the PM system.

Alaskan hunts only - Please feel free to share your photos from other states/countries in the Out and About forum.

    2010 hunts only

This is one of my favorite features of the site, as I love seeing the collection build throughout the year and the transition from one set of species to another. Our late winter moose, bison and musk ox...leading to the spring bear...and then into sheep and caribou...and back to moose, goat, bears, and more. Let's get this new collection started!

February 12, 2010 Delta Bison. My dad shot this with a 30/06 and 220 grain bullets at 200 yards.

    Default Kodiak Winter Deer

Stormy weather on Kodiak in January, no Caribou seen in blowing snow, but this guy will do fine for small family subsistence

    Default January Bison

Shot this one at <20feet the first time (double lung shot). She took off running like Flo-Jo...as if not even touched! I levered the action and placed the second shot directly in the middle of the neck at a distance of about 40feet. It went right through the spine and she collapsed mid-stride. The rifle is a Winchester Model 1895 in .405 Winchester using 300grain Kodiak bonded bullets at a predicted speed of 2400fps. The bullets went right through her like a freight train. Only took five and a half hours to break her down and get her carted off to my truck. Thanks to Mrs. Schultz who rallied her truck right out in the field to provide the lighting and for her help in holding the legs. She was God-sent!

    Cheers!

April of 2010, less than 20 miles from my front door--of course my front door is hundreds of miles from anywhere of significance.

Default An honest 10-foot brown bear

Here's a bruiser from the spring season this year- Alaska Range. The bear squared 10 feet and the skull was just shy of 29 if I remember correctly. I was not involved; it was taken by a guide operation I have worked with in the past. Hidden Alaska Guides and Outfitters.
