Sentry hardware sells them as well. At least here in North Pole they do. But I made mine.

In Michigan where I grew up snaring isn't legal so I never learned how to set one. Did some research tonight and I definitely think it's time to give this a try!

Talking real men don't use snares.....

i hang up side down over the trail and grab them as they run by

Boondocks in Eagle River has them. A dozen are about 10 dollars. They work extremely well although if you don't anchor them high and if you dont catch them around the neck you will have a twisted snare that you will have to rebuild next season. I caught 3 yesterday out of 8 sets.

Default Regular old wire works fine

Copper or iron, or galv. steel. Even aluminum, though you can't re-use it much. It's all in how it hangs.

Take a 2' length of wire, twist a little loop with a nail on one end, and put the other end through it. form your noose, and hang it from an overhanging branch or a cross piece you have wired between 2 up-rights. The noose should be about 4 inches above the surface. Put lots of small branches, light boughs, etc. to encourage the bunny to stay on his run. Works well.

It pays to learn to make your own. Ours are a dollar each (cost), with no shipping charges if your local.

    Thanks again Joe!

I did some research and made my own with a washer and cable. Snared a 40# beaver. First snared critter. Pretty cool experience.

    Default yep make your own

I use picture wire too, but the heavier stuff because you never know when Mr fox is going to come down the bunny trail and you might just get lucky. I I got one nice red last year that way. No luck this year but I still have fun! Ive been eating bunny about twice a week all winter long. Tasty!

Shop the others first, use these guys as a last minute need to buy, they can be quite expensive.

I did some checking around and found they were competative on their supplies. You have to remember if you get it online or from the lower 48, you tack on the shipping.

    Default Trapping supplies

Just to add my two cents worth, Alaska Range Trapping Supply has always been a supporter of the trapping associations in our state, making numerous donations over the years. Whenever possible, I like to patronize those locally who support us as trappers. That being said, I also like to get the best deal I can when purchasing supplies, so I do a lot of "comparative shopping" before I make a purchase. Save when you can, but remember the folks that are there for you in a pinch. Just my opinion!
