    Default options

    I've got two options:

    1. .300 WSM w/ 180 gr Barnes TSX, Leupold VXII 3x9
Concerns are too fast at such a close range. It could blow a pretty good hole off the back side.

    2. Benelli Nova pump 12 gauge w/ brenneke slugs and ghost ring site
This gun did a heck of a job on my moose with minimal meat and fur damage. It is very accurate within 50 yards.

I may give both a try. I don't have any advice for a .35 cal

I have used alot of brennke slugs on deer years ago in southern Michigans shotgun zone. They work very well in deed.

I have no idea what shotgun slugs have to do with answering the question.
I use a 8mm Remington Mag, 220 grain A Frame bullets in it for everything. All the calibers you listed are suitable for black bears as you probably already know. Its overkill for a black bear from a stand but better too much than too little. Any good bullet, 180 grains or more will work just fine.

have alot of exp. w/35REM&358WIN. , 200gr. core-locs.and 250gr. speer grand slams. At baiting distances very effective blk. bear med. Would recomend break down frnt. shoulders. blk. bears can take a lot of punishment. used to tell hunters don't stop shooting till the bear stops moving taxidermists have miles of thread!

    I use:
35rem 200gr Hornady RN or 200gr rcbs cast
    350Rem Mag 225gr sierra BTSPT
358Norma 250gr Barnes SP will have a 280gr mold shortly.
depending on where and what bear I want to hunt.

The speer and hornady 250gr bullets are hard to beat. I especially like the hornady rn 250 gr bullets.

Mose 35 caliber bullets are plenty for black bears though.

Same thing for the Whelen in the Rem. 7600. The .350 Rem. Mag I would choose the same when I start reloading for it.

    I use the 200gr Rem CLRN @ 2180fps in a Marlin 336D using H4895.
I have a Rem 700 rebarreled to 358win and have a good 200gr Hornady spire point load @ 2480fps and working on a 225gr partition load with H322/Tac/H4895/AA2495 ( I have them all on hand).
The whelen with 200 CL PSP has been a great buck DRT 3 for 3.
