berger 168 vld 308win
Does anyone have load data for berger 168 vld's in a 308 winchester using imr4064 powder?
I've run it with Lapua brass and Varget but I'm away from my data.
Contact Berger tech line @ 714-447-5458. They will share any data that they have with you, very nice help line. I spoke with them about 204 loads last week and they mentioned that their load book is about ready for print.
Sean I talked to Berger down at shot show and brought a bunch of bullets back too
I'll send an email to Walt, but I bet SMK data is close
The Berger has a BC of .473 and the Sierra has a BC of.462, virtually the same drag profile. The Berger will drop 0.4" less and drift 0.7" less than the Sierra at the 500 yard line assuming a 10mph cross wind if loaded to the same velocity. The difference of course gets wider the further you reach out.
Hodgdon's web site data lists IMR-4064 with a starting load of 41.5gr and a max load of 45.9gr with the Sierra MKBT loaded to 2.800"
I have loaded both of these bullets with other powders at longer lengths and didn't hit the lands prior to being to long for the magazine in four different 308's due to their long pointed shape.
IMR 4064 @ 43.5 or IMR 4895 @ 43.6
2600 FPS with 26" barrel
Best accuarcy with bullets seated out to touch rifling.
Due to bullet design and gun may have to load single due too COL.
Really like the VLD Hunting bullet
