Default Private pilot paper licenses expire

This is a second notice that anyone possessing a paper pilot's license will find that it is no longer valid on March 31st!!!! Go to www.faa.gov and obtain a plastic license before you become illegal.

    Wink

So on April 1st (Fool's day of all things), when you taxi and request clearance, is ATC going to first ask if you have, "paper or plastic?".

Sorry, couldn't resist the setup on that one.

Laugh now but instead I would suggest that you follow the following thread... Don't blame me if you don't!

    www.faa.gov

at the top select: licenses & certificates

    under airmen, select: airmen certificate

near the bottom select: NEW paper pilot license expires

Select: to change your certificate number from your SSN and request a replacement

Pilots cannot exercise the privileges of their PAPER pilot certificates after March 31, 2010.
Certificates issued under 14 CFR Part 63 and 65 will expire March 31, 2013.

    FAR 61.19(h) reads:
Duration of pilot certificates. Except for a temporary certificate issued under ß61.17 or a student pilot certificate issued under paragraph (b) of this section, the holder of a paper pilot certificate issued under this part may not exercise the privileges of that certificate after March 31, 2010.

FAA was out on Sunday at Birchwood asking people if they had the plastic license. They stopped by as I was preheating my plane. So, I expect they will be out checking some more.

Paper to plastic: March 31 deadline approaches
If youíre still flying using your paper pilot certificate, time is running out to switch to a plastic certificate. Pilots are required to obtain plastic pilot certificates from the FAA by March 31 if exercising airmen privileges. To make sure you donít have to wait on the ground for your new certificate, request it now on the FAA Web site.
