    Unhappy yamaha bruin help

Okay it is a bit embarrassing, I have a 2004 yamaha bruin 350 4x4. MY gas and desiel cans got mixed up and i put desiel in my quad. Now it will not run right start easily runs but losses power going up hill after a bit it smells like something is burning, plastic smell, then it becomes hard to start until i pop the air filter cover then she starts right up, but still has no power.
i cleaned out tank, cleaned carberator, put some gum out cleaner in gas, and still nothing.
trying to avoid taking it to a shop and paying huge shop fees/any help or insight will be greatly appreciated

Did you run it before noticing you had mixed up the fuel? Even if you had, I can't imagine there would have been any damage. It probably would have just burned off the gas in the fuel line and float bowl, then started smoking a lot and died. I know gasoline can seriously damage a diesel engine, but I didn't think diesel would damage a gas engine. Maybe I'm wrong.

Maybe you just need to start it and let it idle for a while to let it burn off any residual diesel you might have missed.

I assume it was running fine before the mix-up? Since it runs fine when you pull the air filter cover, maybe some of the diesel was pushed up into the air cleaner and is suffocating the engine. Try cleaning or replacing the air filter and see if that works.

The other 299,300,000 people can have it.

Noone has a more intimate understanding of, or deeper appreciation for freedom, than a soldier who has fought for it in a country where it does not exist.

Had one on my employees do that to one of my Bruins a few years ago ,I drained the tank, pulled carb and cleaned, Changed air filter and plug ,Then ran premium gas in it ,That cleared it up, But The burning smell you got me on?You sure the belt is not burning ? or one of the wires is not on the engine.
