Thread: lead loads?

  1. #1

    Question lead loads?

Anyone have any good load data for 155gr hardcast lead to be used in the 40SW. I will be using Unique and Bullseye. I have lots of data on jacketed, but come up empty for lead. I'm not alone I guess, according to some of my research. Thanks.

You would do better with this in the handloading forum.

10mm and 40S&W are hard to find lead data for but you can use data for jacket bullets of the same or very close weights for your cast lead. Rule of thumb is lead is slicker and will produce less pressure with the same charge so you are safer subbing lead for copper than copper for lead. As always start low and work up and in this case keep a close eye out for leading as well as pressure signs.

There are some cast loads here but only this one with Unique:
    155gr LSWC ~ 5.7 gr ~ Unique
Looks fine but I would not trust it without comparing it to more resources since he did not include the velocity. Better to just work one up off copper data I think.

    Thumbs up Thanks!

When I posted this request Andy, I almost just sent you a pm first because I felt that you would have an answer...and I was right. I didn't know that one could use jacketed data and work up from there. Since these are just plinking loads, I don't have get to carried away. Thanks again.
