    Default Goat hunting books

Does anyone know of some good books on hunting mountain goat in Alaska. I've found some good ones on Sheep but not very many on goats.
    Thanks.....

I'm sure there's probably some good hunting books of goats but if you really want to learn something about goats get a copy of one of the best on the subject is 'A Beast The Color Of Winter" by Douglas Chadwick

    Default Goat Books

The forum members recommended two goat books... I bought both... I was not disappointed - each had their strengths.

"A Beast the Color of Winter" by Douglas Chadwick

"The Mountain Goat Challenge" by Ace Sommerfeld

    Have fun!

    Default Other books

Hunting the Rocky Mt. Goat by Duncan Gilchrist.

Hunting and Fishing in Alaska by Russell Annabelle- A bit windy in places but ole Rusty could tell a story.

    Alaska Hunter by Roy Chandler

I could go back to the bad old days near the turn of the century,
    These are a good start.

    Sincerely,
    Thomas

You can get The Mountain Goat Challenge and Hunt High For Mountain Goats right here at the forum store.

(No, I don't personally make a dime off the book sales, but it's nice to support the site that we all benefit from.)

    i would also HIGHLY recommend
"Mountain Goats: Ecology, Behavior, and Conservation of an Alpine Ungulate"
~ Marco Festa-Bianchet (Author), Steeve D. Cote (Author)
spendy, so you might want to get it on a library loan, but as for insights and facts on mountain goat biology it is the best book available, hands down.

Do you want mountain goat hunting stories, or just information on hunting them. What do you want to know? Hunt them like sheep, however, they don't act like sheep.getting close to goats alot easier to than getting close to sheep........I don't own any of the Goat books, just own all the sheep books.

Yep my limited experience is that a sheep will leave the drainage when you are a mile away, while the goats I hunted on Kodiak wouldn't spook till you were in range.

I did order Mountain goat challenge (from this site)after posting the question. I am looking more for hunting strategies rather than stories but stories can be helpful too. I recently purchased Sheep hunting in Alaska by Tony Russ and after reading it I realized I had been bitten by the sheep bug, ouch! I looked into planning a hunt this fall but unless I pull a tag it looks as though 40 mile air is booked. I have been flirting with idea of chasing some of the goats here around Juneau for some time. I think this fall I am gonna give it a go. I was assuming they could be hunted like sheep but I think the research before the hunt is half the fun.
    Thanks for all the suggestions.
    -Travis

Duncan Gilchrist's book and video for hunting and field judging goats is good information for anyone considering a goat hunt.
