Kayaking areas near Fairbanks?
Where are some good kayaking areas near the Fairbanks area? Thanks!
Have you tried Beaver Creek in the White Mountains National Recreation Area, about 50 miles north of Fairbanks. It's a very long but mild river.
It's managed by the BLM, so you could get full details from them.
You have several options:
Chena River from 50 mile Chena Hot Springs Road down to Fairbanks or it can be cut into several sections from 5-10 miles. Class I rated for the most part with some techincal water on the North Fork above 38 mile.
Chatanika River just about the same as the Chena but limited access points
Delta Clear Water back up to Delta Clear Water Lake
Pile Driver Slough Solid Slow Water but a good 10-15 miles of nice float.
If your looking for something with more adventure East Fork of the Gulkana from Summit Lake down to Paxson Lake. All road system and a hoot! Class II boluders and shallow but still fun. 3 hours away.
More options these are the easy ones.
Have fun and best wishes
