Has anyone ever gone from PT MAC to MT SUSITNA?? is it doable??

What about riding around Klutina Lake or Tonsonia Lake? Is there parking availble? Can a person cross the pipeline to get to Tonsonia?

    Thank you for any info.

I have rode from Big Lake to Mt. Susitna, we actually rode to Beluga, and on the way back hit the base of Mt. Susitna, we didn't go up on the mountain because it was getting late. We got to the base of the mountain by riding up Alexander creek

yes...pt mac gas line to the Big Su...go upriver to the Alexander.....go up the Alexander until you hit one of a few trails up the mountain.....if the snow is good, take a gps and you can bookdock from the river up to the mountain....if you can't pack gas you can get some at the mouth of Alexander....can't think of the name of the place but it is on river right....

How do you get to the Pt Mac gas line trail?

Is the Big Su frozen over yet?

Any trails up to Judd Lake that are broker yet this year?

    ***Shameless plug alert***

The Anchorage Snowmobile Club is planning a group ride to Mt Susitna on Feb 6th. We're always looking for new members and the club is a great way to check out new places to ride.

Meetings are the 3rd Wednesday of the month Sep thru April, 7pm at the IBEW Hall on Denali St (Across from the theater)

That sounds interesting! We've been interested in riding to Mt. Su. Will have to see if we can attend next week's meeting. Thanks for the heads up.
"If snowmachiners would adopt the habits of riding one at a time and not parking at the base of avalanche prone slopes, the number of fatalities would likely be whittled by at least a third, if not by half." ~ Jill Fredston, in the book Snowstruck, In The Grip Of Avalanches.

Default Not Enough Snow on Sleeping Lady

The Anchorage sled club scouted the Mt. Susitna trail last weekend. They got stopped at the base due to a "wall of alders". They claim 6 feet or more snow is needed to make it passible. See their website for the update and pics of the scout mission.
