    Default Arctic Man

For those of you who are interested, Arctic Man has moved a week later to April 11-15. One advantage is that Anchorage school kids won't have a conflict with their testing week. Plan ahead, take your kids, have some fun.

Really? Kids? I've never addended but all the stories I've heard about Arctic Man are about how it's a week long drunk fest. Has it mellowed out recently?

It is what you make it. The State Troopers are very visible and keep things under control in the main camping areas. I take my kid along with several other friends with their kids. It's the kids that keep us going back. If you don't teach them about crowds and a few drunks, who will? Party central is easy to avoid, or easy to find. It's all good.

Mostly we just ride and watch some of the best riders on the planet play. The race is a kick, too. the racers take the event very seriously. Immediately after the main event there's a hillcross, and the next day there's a snowcross right behind manufacturer's row. Throw in some really ballsy riders doing stupid human tricks, and it's heaven for a motorhead.

Just can't handle the parking anymore... I used to pay for 2 spots just so I could park in one. Meanwhile.... 4 rigs jam into one spot moving everyone down. Just got to be too much for me.

Default Arctic Man is a blast

I've been twice (missed last year)

Never had any problem with rowdies..........11pm ish I put in my earplugs and go to sleep.

Best way to go is to get a group so you can rent a few parking spots and be comfortable

I was real impressed with the logistics (i.e. parking and porta pottis)

Never had a problem with parking but I can see how squeezing could happen especially if you're all by yourself

Last year it was $100.00 for the week to park inside the gate. That gets you 15' x 70' with portable toilets that get serviced pretty frequently.

It still looks thin. Look at Isabel Pass.

Your loss. Me? I wouldn't miss it.

Traffic has never been a problem during my trips there and back. Frost heaves limit the speeds to double digits. Even motorhomes can keep up at that pace!

    Default Snow conditions?

I was up at Eureka this weekend and the snow was "good"

Any idea how it compares at Paxon?

Doesn't really matter because I'm going regardless but.......always nice to anticipate

I heard they got something like 14" last week but that's unconfirmed. The forecast calls for snow this weekend. I'm like you, I'm going anyway. I want snow but not as much as last year!

I posted the weather cam earlier. Here's the road report link.

For any newbies considering going, the race is scheduled for 1:00 on Friday as it always is. There should be a hillcross up on the mountain at the race finish line on Friday afternoon as well. The snowcross is on Saturday. This is not a typical weekend event.

    Drive safe, have fun.

    Default Things are looking good....

Weather is shaping up pretty nice

Forecast is for a partly cloudy with not much chance of precipe

Hi's in the low 40's lo's in the single digits

I normally go up Wed and come back Sunday (like this year) and I've never given traffic a second thought.....it's a total non issue

Maybe I go to bed too early but I've always wondered where all the rowdies are ???

As long as there's enough snow to do some nice ridin it's a good time!!

    See Ya!!!
