Thumbs up Headed that way Sunday

Good luck to you Sapper 2-7, we'll be headed that way as well tomorrow for our first hard water adventure. My brother-in-law is up from Los Anchorage and I have a new Eskimo Quickfish 3 pop up to test out and take refuge in. Let us know how you did.

    Default Slow overall

Fishing was REALLY slow Sat. Temps were pretty chilly too but the ice shanty and its trusty wood burning stove kept us toasty. Had 1 really nice 'bow early in the day that nearly stole my ugly stick. Here are the pics...the kiddo wanted a pic of him holding it too

Nice fish. Looks a little heavy with your arms all the way out like they are. Where is the phone call? I need the report. I am thinking of booking the shack again this week for my father-in-law and I. I am home with mom and baby. Feel free to swing by. I am sure the Northern Lights hotel staff enjoys you cleaning fish in the room!

Default I'll tell you about the good ole days...

I have pictures of myself at Quartz lake fishing at 65 below in the 70's.
With out a tent or warm up shack of any kind. Icickles hanging off my moustache 5 inches long. Now those... were the good ole days.
If a dipnetter dips a fish and there is no one around to see/hear it, Did he really dip?

    Post Skunksville today

Well, we had lines in the water at noon and picked up at 6 with not even a bite. Talked to some of the others on the ice before we left and the story was the same. Had a great time none-the-less though and the pop up worked well. Plan on giving it another go in a week or so.

I was busy cutting plastic and missed all the activity on Quartz... Good to hear and see all the fishing going on!

    Default Quartz

Any one fished Quartz lately? I have not gone to my shanty in awhile but might this coming week. I am wondering if it is still kinda slow?

I was going to go today but canceled because a friend of mine said he was out there a couple of days ago and did not even get a bite all day. He said he pulled up a couple hundred shrimp when he drilled one of his holes and thought maybe the shrimp have had a big hatch this winter. He thought that maybe they had so much live shrimp that maybe they were not interested in his bait. I kinda wonder if that makes since or not? What does everyone else think?

    Default Where are the fish?

I can either go to work or go fishing? I am going fishing @ Quartz, cause I like fishing better than working.

Where are the fish? shrimp hatch? I have no idea about either.

I started ice fishing at Quartz Lake in 2001. I have found with experience you need to hit it hard and shallow in Nov-Dec. Jan-Feb a little deeper with a slower bite. Mar-basically sucks and April (just before ice out) it seems to pick up again. Some years its been so slow and a teenage wasteland that I heard cries of "winter kill" not so...they are there again at ice out and back in NOV-DEC every year since I have fished with about the same frequency and numbers of fish.

Heck I am just going to roll the dice, do a drive, and drop a line. It just sucks having to go alone. I will reach deep inside and find the inspiration of past memories of monsters lost and caught.... to keep me waiting for the next take down.

    Maybe I should try Harding??

O well, too bad. I am going out on Sunday to pull my shanty off the lake so I might as well fish while I am out there. Hopefully my luck will be better.
