Board Actions – December Meeting
Synopsis only-see Bulletin Board for official meeting minutes.
The repair and painting of the exterior of the range was voted on as the project that will be our #1 priority for the coming year.
Other Board decisions:
- John Pratt is to work on our old HEPA vacuum rather than MVS purchasing a new one. All other projects were tabled.
- Steve Montgomery is to survey volunteers past and present in January.
- Improvements to the Glenn Highway and their effects on the range were discussed.

Preparing for the General Membership Meeting in February.
Brian stated that he needs to take a break, he is stepping down at the next annual meeting (February). The Board of Directors accepted his resignation and will be looking for a replacement. MVS thanks Brian Pinney for his invaluable service to the club.

On January 12, 2010, MVS will host a Women on Target .22 rifle clinic from
6:00 – 9:00 PM. Guest instructors Larry Boyle and Alexandra Brown from Firearms Education and Training will conduct this clinic.

Ladies Night Continues to be a Success at MVS
On our last Ladies Night at the Range, we had 16 shooters. Usually, each Ladies Night is characterized by a discussion or presentation of one facet of the shooting sports. We have had black powder shooters, small-bore position shooters, bulls-eye pistol shooters, and demonstrations of some esoteric equipment.
Usually, anyone who wants to shoot one of the demonstrated firearms is able
to do so. The ladies on Dec. 8th participated in a presentation about submachine guns and each had an opportunity to fire a real submachine gun. A great time was had by all.

Monday Nights are for .22 only
Only .22 caliber pistols and rifles are allowed on Monday nights from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. There is also an NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program on these nights.

The next Scheduling Meeting is set for March 15, 2010 at 7:00 PM.
A Concealed Handgun Permit Class will be held on Jan 21, 22, and 23, 2010.
Classes on Jan. 21st and 22nd are from 6:30 to 9:30 PM at Palmer Fire Training Center on 645 E. Cope Industrial Way. On Jan 23rd, the class is from 9:00 until 3:00 and is located at the MVS range complex. Call 746-4862 for details or to sign up.
There will be an NRA Basic Pistol class on Saturday, January 30, 2010 from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Call 746-4862 for details or to sign up.
There will be a Defensive Handgun Skills Improvement Class on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 7:00 AM. Call 746-4862 for details or to sign up.
A Women’s Only Concealed Handgun Permit Class will be held on March, 20 2010. The class is from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM and is located at the MVS range complex. Call 746-4862 for details or to sign up.
There will be a Defensive Handgun Skills Improvement Class on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 7:00 AM. Call 746-4862 for details or to sign up.
NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation Classes are available on a sign-up basis.
The cost is $30 and will be taught by an NRA –Certified Firearms Instructor.
FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type for classes of four or fewer students.

In January, when you apply for your Permanent Fund Dividend, you will again have the opportunity to give to your favorite Alaska nonprofit organizations like the Matanuska Valley Sportsmen. Pick. Click. Give. provides a safe and secure way to make a donation, and it's available to all Alaskans who file on-line.
When you go on-line to sign up for your dividend, you will see the option called PFD Charitable Contributions Program (Pick. Click. Give). Click and follow the instructions to make a donation.
Organizations from across the state have been qualified for the program this year, so you're likely to find one you already support, and you can use this way to make an additional gift. Or you may find a new organization whose mission is important to you, and you can donate to that organization.
Matanuska Valley Sportsmen is on the list for 2010. We appreciate any and all support you can give.
You may give all or part of your dividend, whatever is appropriate for you and your family. We simply encourage you to give.
At MVS, our By-Laws provide that a quorum at our General Membership Meeting in February is 5 percent of our dues paying members. With our current membership, a quorum is 50-70 members. It has been difficult to get that many people to attend. We would like your suggestions on how to improve attendance at the General Membership Meeting so that we might have a quorum to do club business. Please let us know how you think attendance at the General Membership meeting could be improved and/or how a quorum could be achieved.
