Oh my does she! She's an unbelievably understanding woman. Even let's the Marlin sleep on my side of the bed!

Thanks Marshall. I'm sure enjoying it. About the ultimate practical gun for me. I know stainless & laminated would be more practical, but I just love blue & walnut on a rifle.

    Nice pics man!!

Lots of info on The Marlin Owners forum. I will put some links at the bottom. Take a look at the "45/70" forum for info/pics of guide guns. Below is mine. Got XS sight system ghost ring sights after the pic was taken. Action job from www.stevesgunz.com Sending her off soon for a full length mag tube. Awesome guns. The finish I did myself with spray on truck bed liner. Slimmed the forearm down a good bit at the time. Best $20 I have ever spent. Tough too. Been on many gravel bars (float trips) and never got a nick in it.

The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

I have been told that DRC is just swampped & not taking any new orders (hasn't been for a month or so) until sometime in January to catch up. I think he will be continuing to produce them. I sure hope so, I love the size. Steve at Alaska Custom Firearms next to Wiggy's in ANC had some in stock last spring. Might check there.

The Burris scope is the Scout Model in 2.75x with the heavy plex cross hairs. I've only had it on there a few months, but so far I really like it. Wouldn't hesitate to recomend it.

    Very nice rig.

Do you have contact info for Jim Coyle? thecoyles@kycom.net no longer works. I need buttstock cartridge holders for: Marlin 1895 (x2), Win 1886, Win 71 (x2), Win 1895, and a Win 94.... My wife's gonna kill me....

Never tried factory ammo. Handloads have been 405gr Remington SP & 420gr hardcast bullets, both over lots of H-322. Both shoot very near same POI.

That's the only contact I have for him. Hopefully someone here or on MO can help you. Good to see you over there.

Is the third pic Mystery Hills?

Boy... gotta say, you guys sure love your lever guns. When I was 18, I sold my Winchester Model 94 to support a girlfriend habit. I don't miss her, but I sure miss the gun.

Here's my GG. I shoot 405gr Cast Performance scooting along at 1900fps. I do wish I went with the DRC lever loop and a better recoil pad. The WWG loop is just too darn big.

Chisana, you have fine taste in rifles! Good looking piece. Is it a 450 or 45-70?
Do you like the ported barrel?
I like the porting on mine. I've shot both & don't really notice any more muzzle blast.
By the way, is that an Eberlestock pack?

There are some fine looking pieces in this thread. I can see why Vince would be jealous!

    Default Scope forward?

For some reason I cannot justify the scope mounted forward to be practical?
I would think you would loose some ability to get a good site picture and get proper alignment with your eye to make it work well. My 1895XLR 45/70 is scoped with a Leupold 2x7x33 and it fits extremely well. My sights are underneath and can be used easily by dropping off the scope.
Can anyone justify to me the forward mount logic? I don't see it being any advantage under an animal attack scenario - am I missing something?
If gun is only a defensive set up then why any scope?
    Merry Christmas to all!
