    Default 280 ackley imp load

I just got a 280 ackley improved and I was wondering about loads. I can find load data for nosler, but that is about it. I was going to make up a load with 140 barnes Tsx and was wondering if I start with the max load and go up 3to 4 percent would be a safe starting point?

My approach with ackleys has been to start with data for the parent cartridge, and work up from there. I've found -06 based ackleys take ~3 gr more powder than the parent, so ~5% more powder.

I'm planning on building a 280 ackley for my son, but haven't gotten around to it.

I've been shooting a .280AI for a while now, and I use Nosler's data as a reference. The Hodgdon website has more data for the .280AI, as well, with a variety of other bullets. Otherwise, Paul's advice is sound. Start with data for the .280 Rem and work up from there.

    FWIW, I've had great accuracy with IMR & H4831, RL-17 & 22, and N-165 powders in my .280AI.
