ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- An avalanche has closed one of the state's major highways.
The Department of Transportation says the Seward Highway was closed in both directions Friday afternoon because of an avalanche south of Girdwood and north of Seward.
Spokesman Roger Wetherell says no injuries were reported.
Wetherell says crews are setting up electronic message boards to alert travelers of the problem. He says the highway will remain closed overnight.
Wetherell says heavy equipment will be brought to the area on Saturday to remove the snow.
"If you are on a continuous search to be offended, you will always find what you are looking for; even when it isn't there."

They knew this was going to happen after the weather that they got last week and should have blasted the hills before the holiday.

Oh well those of you on the Penn. enjoy, and those of you in Anch, enjoy the sales.

Just to clearify the avalanch is at mile 21 of the Seward hay, near the head waters of Kenai lake. You can still get through to Kenai, Soldotna, Homer.
