MVS Quorum

At MVS, our By-Laws provide that a quorum at our General Membership Meeting in February is 5 percent of our dues paying members. With our current membership, a quorum is 50-70 members. It has been difficult to get that many people to attend. We would like your suggestions on how to improve attendance at the General Membership Meeting so that we might have a quorum to do club business. Please let us know how you think attendance at the General Membership meeting could be improved and/or how a quorum could be achieved.

Please let us know your thoughts either by filling out our survey by going to the following web link on your computer

You may also contact the Board President, Steve Montgomery, at this e-mail address:

Of course, regular mail is also always welcome. Please direct your thoughts on the quorum issue to:

Pick. Click. Give.

About the Program

In January, when you apply for your Permanent Fund Dividend, you will again have the opportunity to give to your favorite Alaska nonprofit organizations like the Matanuska Valley Sportsmen. Pick. Click. Give. provides a safe and secure way to make a donation, and it's available to all Alaskans who file on-line.

When you go on-line to sign up for your dividend, you will see the option called PFD Charitable Contributions Program (Pick. Click. Give). Click and follow the instructions to make a donation.
Organizations from across the state have been qualified for the program this year, so you're likely to find one you already support, and you can use this way to make an additional gift. Or you may find a new organization whose mission is important to you, and you can donate to that organization.

Matanuska Valley Sportsmen is on the list for 2010. We appreciate any all support you can give.

You may give all or part of your dividend, whatever is appropriate for you and your family. We simply encourage you to give.

Words of Wisdom
“I don't think I've ever been as thankful for American freedoms as I am now. I must admit that I'm also appallingly alarmed that some of them might not exist at all by this time next year. Like a sunset dropping over the horizon of our founders' dreams, so our freedoms are vanishing from view.

So if you lack something for which to be thankful this Thanksgiving, I'm recommending that we give thanks for our freedoms, for they're fading fast and possibly soon to join the endangered species lists. The truth is: Food is far more plentiful than our freedoms at this point.

You don't need to be eloquent, just bow your head and say from your heart this simple prayer a good friend wrote and sent to me:

God is great
Guns are good,
Let us thank them for our food and freedoms.
