    Default '96 Artic Cat problem

I have a '96 580 EFI Mountain Cat that is giving me problems this year. I replaced the battery last week and the machine runs for about 5 minutes (max) and revs up them dies. I try to start it again and it just clicks real fast. It appears the battery is being drawn down somehow. I charge up the new battery and it runs good for 3-4 minutes - revs up - and dies. These don't have alternators do they? Any ideas?

Check if it's charging. They use a magneto. Still seems odd that it would draw down the battery in 3 or 4 minutes.

    Default electrical problems

is the starter staying on, such as relay staying connected an supplying amps to it, by the key, or the relay just hanging up ,that is a lot of amps as a sled will run on a battery for a few hrs with out any charge going to it, have you tried to start it by hand an see how long the batt. will last,

The revving up before it stalls sounds like a lean condition. If the battery is getting run down the electric fuel pump will eventually not make enough pressure and lean out the motor. The only charging issues I've seen has been bad voltage regulators but when they've gone bad on me they were actually over charging not under charging.

Do you have a volt meter?

    Default I had this problem......

with my 94' 700 wildcat EFI. Ended up taking it to the dealer, they reflashed the computor and it worked fine ever since. If you don't keep up the the batteries on those EFI machines it will do wierd things. Take it in and get a comp check.

    Good luck
