Thread: 223 Remington question

    Default 223 Remington question

Was loading some 223 Remington's this afternoon and found a box of Sierra bullets with a .223 diameter. All my manuels list a .224 diameter bullet for the Remington. All the 22 caliber's I have loaded for are 22-250 and 223. I must of bought the .223 diameter's at some time by mistake. My question is what all calibers or guns used the .223 diameter bullets?

Many older 22 Hornets use the .223 caliber bullets. Seems initially that 22 LRs were rechambered to Hornet use and the manufacturers kept with the smaller bore specifications until sometime in the late 40s or possibly into the 50s.

Same for the 22 Remington Jet. In order to allow shooting 22 lr from the same gun, it had the smaller bore.
