    Default Snow!!

Let's hope this storm brings a bunch of snow!! I'm dying to get out and ride... just got a RMK 700 for running supplies in this year! Going to be a much faster trip then last year! I will be finally "RIDING" into the lodge this weekend, rather then driving if we get the kind of snow they are talking about!

We'll provide at least daily, and probably a couple of times per day, reports of snow fall and depths from the lodge. We update on our website, on here, on facebook, twitter, and myspace.

We have some links to the satellite loop on our web site, this page:

    http://www.alpinecreeklodge.com/id62.html

Or you can go directly to it and save it to your favorites. I use this, and make my own weather predictions, as I just don't trust the 'experts'!

    Let's go riding!

    Default Winter Storm Warning

Can someone not suffering from CRS please enlighten us as to when the last time a Winter Storm Warning was correct.

Years ago I had occasion to ask an employee of the National Weather Service down in Capitol City "Do you guys even have windows at your office?" suggesting that would increase the accuracy of their prognostications.

The Winter Storm Warning that sends me scurrying to the sleds is one that continues to claim "2-4 inches" when 8 has already fallen.

Remember folks, it's a message coming from a Gubermint agency.

    Cool Right on!

You are right on Partychief! That's why I attempt to decipher the satellite loop myself. But I do have an updated report from my brother who came down from the lodge this morning. He said it's snowing starting about 25 miles South of Cantwell. He also noted that around Talkeetna it is snowing so hard he had to slow to 40mph and visibility was near zero.

The disclaimer is that he worked for the BLM for 10 years... so take even his eyewitness report with a grain of salt....

Here's a photo of the Parks Hwy from ADOT's camera from just a little bit ago. Looks like a good start. But of course, it is a government camera.

8" fell yesterday at mile 99 on the Parks Highway. It's settling already (fluffy powder) and there is no base. Rocks everywhere and I'm not letting my kids ride yet. It's a good start, but not enough around here yet.

BTW..driving back from Wasilla yesterday afternoon definately qualified for a winter storm warning. It was 35 mph from Pitman Rd to Willow..then it was fine after that.
