    Default Ruger M77 troubles...

    Chambered in .270.

The latching mechanism on the "trap door" of my .270 has not been working properly..i.e. popping open and depositing my ammo on the ground in the most inconveinient places, whenever the stock or barrel is bumped on a tree or anything. I usually don't remember this until in the field and have used tape to temporarily keep the thing from coming open, but would rather fix the problem.

Anyone else had this happen and if so do you have a home remedy? Other than the old standby....duct tape?

JDM. Try backing off forward bedding and trigger guard screws enough so barrelled action moves in the stock. tighten front bedding screw , keep floor plate open now tighten trigger guard screws, leave loose enough to allow for movement. Close floor plate slowly making sure it contacts fully with trigger guard by moving trigger guard forward or back tighten screws. Release latch shoud be flush with the outside of trigger guard check for proper function. DuckToller
