Default ? on the DM435 hunt

My friend got a tag for the hunt coming up and I was gonna pack his harvest out with my horse. I usually just carry my 44 but should I bring a rifle for preditors, wolves coyotes blackies, is it legal to wak them up there?

Black bears are legal in the Ship Creek drainage, but wolves are not and I'm pretty sure coyotes aren't as well (though I could be wrong on that one).

In this google pic where is the trailhead versus where the ski hill is, is it what I see continueing beyond the road. This is the way I need to take my horse in to my understanding if my friend harvests a moose. Where does the trail come in from the other side off highland road if they were gonna come in from that way or would they be better off entering from arctic valley also?

I can't imagine that going up and over from Hiland would be a good idea with horses. I've read about people doing it, but having hiked it extensively, it sure doesn't seem like the best access point. The trailhead off of Arctic Valley Road starts on the right of the road about just as you start coming into sight of the ski area - maybe 1/2 mile short of the ski lodge parking lot? You should see the pullout pretty clearly, and I think there is some basic signage there.
