Default I'd go buy some 7828 powder for the wby...

This always seems to turn up in the weatherby section. Accurate loads and quite high speeds in the .257 and .300 Wby.

PLUS, this gives you an excuse to buy more powders!!!

I've not loaded for the 338 RUM, but H4831 is a great powder for the 300 WBY. I second that RL 22 is also a good choice. I use IMR 7828 in my 340 WBY, but haven't tried it in the 300--no reason to fix something that's not broken.

I am really liking that RL 22 myself...

What do you mean by trump. Do you mean over power, more velocity, more accuracy? Perhaps you mean it is superior in every way? I love RL 22/MRP and it is a versatile and very good rifle powder, but it does not produce as much velocity nor is it as accurate in my Mark V 340. Perhaps it is my rifle, or my particular lot of RL 22, but the fact is it will not and does not trump 7828 in MY 340.

My .300 WBY likes RL-22 best as well, but I've also used H-1000. Had to buy it because everyone else that has already posted bought out all the RL-22.

    Default 338 rum

I have been using Ram Shot Magnum. Seems to work with 250 gr Accubonds which I get .5" groups at 100 yards. But thats just me.

    I've tested 4831sc, IMR7828, RL-25 and Retumbo in a 300RUM.

IMR 7828 outperforms 4831sc by 60fps with equivalent accuracy. RL-25 beats IMR 7828 by 80fps with equivalent accuracy. Retumbo is the high speed champ but accuracy suffered in my tests.

RL-25 is the champ for my 300RUM.

Ballistics are similar with the 300Wby and of course the case is virtually the same as your 338RUM.
