Places to shoot in Palmer/Wasilla area?
Is there a place in the Palmer/Wasilla area where I can set up my own clay thrower and do some trap shooting? Also, are there any regulations regarding this that I should be aware of before I go shooting outside of an established range?
Thanks in advance
You might consider the Grouse Ridge range off Wasilla Fishhook road or the Birchwood range.
If you don't want a formal range, just 1) stay off private property unless you have permission, 2) avoid the Knik river area, 3) make sure you know what is down range and don't be "reckless". Also, the further you get from residential areas the better.
Point McKinzie (sp?) has lots of public land that you can shoot on. Some people shoot off the end of the the runway at the end of KGB but that isn't legal. Basically, any place you can get off the road, on public land, is probably ok unless it is marked no tresspassing or no shooting.
Hope that helps,
If you leave your busted clays laying on the ground it will be concidered littering on public land
What about the bunkers down by the runway...the old concrete buildings that lots of people have trashed - I hear people shooting by them everytime that I go down there duck hunting.....
Who owns that ground? What are the laws for shooting there?
Aren't clays biodegradeable? Does that matter for littering?
I believe that the land out there was turned over to the mental health trust but I am not sure. Lots of idiots out there mowing off rounds w/ no backstop. It is a good place to get shot.
Where would I find Grouse Ridge range (any clue as to the mile marker?), and what exactly is it? Is this just an open area with a backstop, or is it more formal?
