    Default Stoves to King Salmon

Going to fly into King Salmon from Anchorage on PenAir to take the wife bear hunting. Has anyone flown with them lately and how did you ship your stove???? Or best option for getting a stove there. What I'm asking is can they be used and clean, with no smell or do they have to be new.

    Default Stove

Steve I took an almost new stove with me on the same flight back on 2006. I had used the stove once for testing and then cleaned it thoroughly. Got to camp and started un packing and I couldnt find my stove. After long enough I figured somehow I left it at home. Long story short many weeks later I get a letter in the mail from the airline informing me that my stove had been confiscated. Luckily my partners stove made it! I am assuming mine wasnt clean enough since my partners made it and it was not a new stove.

    Good luck on the hunt!

    Default couple of things

What kind of stove are you talking about? With Penn air there is no checking of carry ons and I was informed that is how alot of people get things to Dillingham and King Salmon.

Another thing that I just learned comming back from dillingham from the guys at everts shipping. If you have something that takes fuel and they smell any when they open it, which will alway happen, is automatically HAZMAT.. The guy told me that a trick that you can do is to take a small amount of deisel and splash it around in the tank. That way when they open it and smell deisel you don't get hit for hazmat. I couldn't believe that deisel is not considered hazmat but I check with a couple of different shippers and confirmed it.

Your best bet is to ship your gear down to AKN on NAC and or Everts a week or so before your trip. Pen Air is notorious for get you there without your gear, then you are spending your trip in the airport waiting for your gear to show up. Anyways the rules on cargo planes is different, as to what they can carry, just call them and tell what you have and they will figure it out for you. You might think it is too pricey, but it is cheap insurance to save your trip. Have fun.

Yea, I know about shipping cargo. The thing is, my wife was supposed to be deployed but her deployment got delayed. So, once I found out she was going to be here, I jumped on the phone and found a transporter. So, we just don't have much time and will have to do the best we can. Bought a new MSR white gas stove and a propane burner. Called and found fuel in King Salmon and had someone there buy it for us. If all goes well we will be Okay. Now we pray for good weather and a big bear for her.

    Thanks,

    Steve
