Default Down to the wire moose kill

Well we were down to the last few days of the season and were going to our favorite "close" spot after work every day this week. We had run into several bulls throughout the week but no shooters. There were hot cows in this one area every day but I was perplexed that there were no "BIG" or leagle bulls around to take care of them and was leaving it to the smaller ones.
Just before dark me and my partner are easing through the woods and doing a little scraping and got a responce just beyond the little rise in front of us. We ease up and at about 100 or so yards we catch a glimps of what looked to be a nice bull, one that we haven't seen yet. We call but he will not leave the cows he has so we start moving in. It's thick and getting dark and we can now only see maybe 10-20 yards so we decied to back out and hit it first thing in the morning.
Well 0630 couldn't come fast enough. We were just about where we left the bull the night before and decided to do a little scaping and when I did, boy, the woods exploded about 60 yrds in front of us. Much to our surprise we had walked right in to where they had bedded for the night. We decide to move a little closer to get a better look, we had a good wind and were able to get within 25 yrds of the cows while they were bedded. But as we are scanning the thicket, we can't see the bull. Nearly 10min go by with no bull so I decide to do a little scaping. Man I thought we were done, the bull comes out blowing stuff from its nose, grunting and breaking trees all the while looking in our direction.
I pull my gun up waiting for him to show his rack to us to make sure he's leagal. Just as my partner sees his left side he says "he's leagal" so I get ready and wait for a good shot. Well this bull continues head on in our direction so I decide to take the old head shot, right between the eyes. The bull drops at 10yrds like a ton of lead. High fives and hooting and holloren goes on.
At this point I still don't realize just how big he is as all I was waiting on was the confirmation that he was leagal from my partner. Anyone care to take a guess on the size of this local "Wasilla" bull?

    I'm guessing at 53-54.

You could have put your rifle in his rack and then we would have the rifle barrel to judge by

Really tho that is a nice one.

Nice job getting a last minute moose like that, sounds like it got rather exciting there for a minute or so! I am going with 58" due to those ling tines on the palms.

    Default A few good guesses

The long tines did make it wider that it looked originally. 54" and yes he did stink to high heaven, but he eats just the same. Had some nice steaks from him last night and it taste just as good as the little one my wife shot last year.
