    Default Hooks on Kwik-Fish

I see that the regs only allow single barbless hooks on lures for fishing Alaska's rivers. What hooks do you use on your Kwik-Fish. I've alot of these lures that I've fished with treble hooks on the Columbia River with, and I'm moving to Homer, AK within the next month.

    Thanks

The single hook regs on the Kenai Peninsula are just that, single hook. You can have barbs on them. Most use a Siwash, octapus style, or a Gami 510. I prefer the octapus and Gami 510 hooks myself. Size varies with the size of Kwikie.

Read the regs more closely! What hooks you can use changes from river to river and month to month. I fish and all of my hooks have barbs.

    Hey Doc,
did you ever find a supply of the 5/0 sickle? are they any different than the matzuo octopus?

    Default 5/0 sickle siwash.

Got my grubby hands on 25 of the precious "little" buggers.

Actually they are precious GINORMOUS buggers.

Wire caliber and "bite" similar to a Gamakatsu 7/0 Octopus.

They are VERY different from the Matzuo octopus sickle.

Contrary to my supplier's recommendations, I still bend them with STOUT pliers to create a bit of offset.

Test drove a 5/0 sickle siwash on a K-16 backtrolling the Kanektok one day last year. Hook went 3 for 3 that day.... small sample I know.... but it did catch big fish of the day!

Was hoping to stick one in a Kenai fish on my one day on the river in 2009, but my number never came up.
