I need to get a winter cover for my Alaskan XL. What kind of cover are you guys using...besides a blue tarp.

I called Busters in Anchorage last week to price a custom cover for a 21' Sportjon and was quoted $1300.00. I purchased a 30'x16' blue tarp at Wallmart for $46.00 yesterday.

    Default Choices

That is your choices, I know you can buy alot of blue tarps for an even grand...BUT.. $1300 is not that far off, to do a good job on a cover that will fit, last and look good in the yard.
I did this one with frame and tie downs for $1500 out of heavy seatarp. There are many choices of materal and colors. I built this one with vents and a rock gaurd to go down the road. http://www.nomaralaska.com/boatshop.htm

Thanks for the replies. I hate to put a blue tarp on a $40,000 boat. It's like putting a Tasco on a Sako.

I keep mine in this little 25'x50' building. Cheap to heat, cheap to build and the Quonset design will take a bunch of snow load.

Been there done that. Had to remove snow every-time it snowed until I missed a day and the whole thing collapsed on my boat.

It was on the place when I purchased it but previous owner said under 20k with slab, insulation and furnace. This one was put up in the early 90's so I imagine prices are up a little but I am sure they are still reasonable. Do a search on Google and you will find that there are many manufacturers that will send you a quote.

An open framing structure wouldnt be too bad or that hard to put up... Foundation blocks on the ground and posts goin up to the top plates with a lot of cross bracing, and then Im sure you can find some trusses that would sell for cheap or make your own... then just shingle the roof, you could do it in about a week or so would be my guess, if ya had the $$ on hand... Anchor it to the ground as well...
