    Default Looking for Procupines and Hoary Marmots

    Does anyone know where I might be able to find these elusive creatures. I love to hunt small game and would love to aquire one of each. Thank you.

    You can hunt porkies but you have to trap marmots. Or have a trapping license when you shoot one. Read the regs.

    Porkies are where ever you find them. Seem to be a lot on the Seward highway south of the pass. Marmots like to den in rocks so go high and scout.

    Thank you I did know about the trapping license to shoot them. I have been all over up high just cant seem to find them.

    I see a lot of marmots on the road when it's sunny first thing in the morning. Try looking for them when they sun in the AM. When it's cloudy I don't see them near as much. This was at Hatcher's pass. (And you half to be 1/4 mile off road). Good luck.

    I've seen lots of dead ones on the Sterling.

    I used to hunt them out in Dillingham because my wife's aunt loved them. That was spring time. Scout around with your eyes in the trees in mixed forest.

    I see alot of porkies down on the Penn around the Cooper landing area; I also see alot of marmot down that way if you get up into the tundra above tree line.

    marmots also live in turnagain pass.....youll only see them on sunny days
